SUBJECT- Memory Based Art: Expressing Personal Memories Through Color, Shape, and Texture
This lesson teaches students how personal memories can inspire artwork. Students will explore how artists use color, shape, and texture to communicate emotions connected to meaningful life experiences.
GRADE LEVEL- 2nd Grade

K-2.VA.4.1 When looking at a work of art, describe what an image represents.
K-2.VA.1.1 Use observation and investigation in preparation for making a work of art.
K-2.VA.1.2 Explore uses of materials and tools to create works of art or design.
OBJECTIVES
Identify and describe emotions represented in artworks using color and shape vocabulary.
Observe teachers demonstrate a variety of watercolor techniques to potentially incorporate into their own artwork.
Create a completed artwork that visually represents a personal memory using intentional color, shape, and texture choices.

MATERIALS NEEDED
Water color paper
Crayola markers
Salt
REQUIRED MATERIALS
Before the Lesson Set Up:
Have each table group’s supplies set up before class starts. This includes:
Water color sets
Paint Brushes
Water Cups
Water Color Paper
Crayola Markers
Colored Pencils
Salt (in plastic baggies or cups)
ASSESSMENT: FORMATIVE AND SUMMATIVE
Formative- Group Discussion: What are some memories you brainstormed?
Summative- Have 2-3 students share their memories with the entire class.

Focus on how more water will blend the watercolor together
Create a shape first and then let it dry. It will help keep crisp lines and maintain shape

Leave water colors to dry on the back counter
Put all of the other materials on the side where they usually are.
